This again was a hard assignment for me but a challenge I actually was willing accept, as I liked that I was able to “promote” a local business. I picked my local gym and we all know how hard they have been hit over this last year. #saveabfitness

When reviewing this weeks readings, specifically how to create a social media calendar, I was again overwhelmed by the examples that are out there. I used to coordinate planes, pilots and passengers! I now work in Engineering navigating students through their 4 years of courses! Why does a social media calendar look so daunting to me?

As I look for and at the funny pictures I have chosen to add to this part of my blog, I could see without any experience in ATC or Chemical Engineering these easy tasks to me may seem overwhelming to others .

Challenge Accepted.

I have chosen to write about OTF Orange Theory Fitness Creekside, my local gym and how I think they are using social media effectively. If’s funny as I am a social newbie, I had to search them out on the other platforms, which took me some time but I found them and I am actually glad I did.

  1. Engaging in Their Chosen Audience. I really liked their Website, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter profile pages. The website just feels active and motivating. They have a great Facebook tag line “The Heart of Fitness”. The picture of the rower may draw people in, as its a unique part of their workout (anyone intrigued?). I was reviewing their Instagram page and liked the logo placement and bio line. Twitter was again another great picture and logo placement.
OTF Facebook, Instagram and Twitter

Most of their posts are geared to their current members but also exciting them into spreading the word. “Did you love it today, good! Tomorrow, bring a friend.” Its like they know liked minded gym people, will bring liked minded gym people. I must add, we are all a little crazy, they even have some of their own memes out there.

2. Utilize Video Posting. They have increased their videos a fair amount due to the recent government regulations regarding COVID-19. Currently their Facebook and Instagram posts are on a regular schedule keeping members informed on what they are currently offering. Originally, they transitioned some of their workouts to an at-home workout using just social media.

I did note that they regularly used live videos to communicate out these changes to keep their “personal relationship” with their current members and to show the new or interested ones how they care for our wellbeing. Not being physically active is a major challenge for some of us right now. #pandemic20

Meet Head Coach Roni, she is always on the ‘media” thanking, welcoming, coaching and over all keeping the spirit of the OTF family alive and well. To me, she is familiar, likeably and trustworthy.

In the below post she was looking for fun and easy way to gather “feedback” from her ‘peeps’ which was also a way to tracking basic information. In case you are wondering I am a

3. Posting and Sharing Client Feedback. They seem to very much pride themselves on their member feedback. When scrolling through their videos, photos and posts this is probably what they share the most across all platforms. I remember the statement, people will listen to their friends and listen to strangers even more, regarding company feed back. As I have noted above they want to build good lasting relationships, word of mouth is kind of a big deal.

We have had competitions, that not only included the gym workout but also looped in 1 or more forms of social media. Luckily for me, at the time, my trainer posted my pictures for me. Now I can do it myself thanks to #BMC312

4. Partnering with Local Programs and Business. They have helped to built a strong sense of community wither that be in the gym, online or out in the actually community. They post live videos, pictures and information about the events they are at, probably on a volunteer basis, wither its for a local charity

or a school event. #thermoplyae (might be one of my kids in that picture #proudmama)

I love how over and over again you keep seeing the #community in their posts.

I feel like this blog can go on and on, can you tell I am passionate about OTF. You should as I searched, read, copied, pasted, linked, blogged and even talked directly to their management team about their social media plan. I definitely have drank the orange koolaid. I also have to note that they post relevant information and links to other health care partners in the community and post job opportunities, which are other great examples of using social media effectively.

PS what a great way to start a conversation about a companies social media plan then to ask them if you can use them as an example in a school project. wink wink nudge nudge

I close this weeks blog with a thank you for the opportunity to support a locally owned and operated company and letting me incorporate it into a school assignment, learning can be fun!

Lastly and begrudgingly here is a picture of us celebrating my 500 work out milestones (me in the glasses). Here is hoping to be back in the gyms again soon.

PPS I loved and hated the note about spelling and grammar.
